Springfield Armory made this M1 Garand in November 1943, serial 2167019, in .30-06 Springfield with a 24-inch barrel marked with an upside-down S-A-3-42. The operating rod is uncut and marked D35382 9 SA, the bolt reads D28287-12SA/W9B and the trigger group is correctly SA marked. The bore is good with light frosting in the grooves and strong rifling. The receiver and trigger assembly show scattered surface oxidation with the receiver markings still faintly visible, and the GI stock carries SA/EMcF cartouches and the ordnance crossed cannons along with honest service wear. The action functions correctly.
An uncut operating rod and period-correct parts are what collectors of wartime Garands look for, and this rifle keeps its service configuration. For New Mexico use it remains a working .30-06: with expanding bullets it is legal for deer, elk and pronghorn, and most of those licenses come through the annual big-game draw with rifle hunts mostly between October and December. Leave the full metal jacket surplus at the range.
