A Savage 93R17 bolt-action rimfire in .17 HMR, serial 1016837, modern production, with a 21-inch round bull barrel, a detachable magazine and Savage's AccuTrigger. A Swift 3-9 scope is mounted. The metal is blued and shows some light, very faint speckling; the checkered walnut stock is very good and the bore is good with strong rifling.

New Mexico's big-game rule calls for a centerfire of .22 caliber or larger, so this rimfire is not a deer or elk rifle. Where it belongs is on the range and on small targets at distance, with the heavy barrel, the AccuTrigger and the 3-9 scope already in place to zero and shoot straight out of the case. Nothing needs to be added except ammunition, and the detachable magazine makes loading and clearing quick between strings.
