A used Savage Model 64 in .22 LR from modern production, fitted with a 16-inch threaded barrel. It is a semi-automatic target rifle with a Picatinny scope mount on the receiver, a manual safety, a detachable box magazine and a black synthetic stock. The bore is rated excellent; the finish shows light handling marks and the overall grade is very good.

For New Mexico use this is a range and small-bore rifle. The state's big-game rule requires a centerfire cartridge, so a .22 LR stays off the deer and elk hunts, but the Picatinny mount makes it easy to scope for paper and steel at the club, and the short threaded barrel keeps it handy in a truck. A used rimfire with an excellent bore and only cosmetic marks gives up nothing in use to a new one, and the detachable magazine makes loading quick between strings.
