Santa Fe Model 1903A3 Bolt Action Rifle .30-06

This bolt-action .30-06 Springfield rifle, serial 5000826, was assembled in the 1960s by the Santa Fe Division of Golden State Arms from U.S. government-issue parts. The 24-inch round barrel is a wartime Remington tube stamped R.A. with the flaming bomb and 3-44. The bore is bright and shiny with strong rifling, the action is smooth and mechanically sound, and the stock shows only light handling impressions, so the overall condition is very good. Santa Fe built sporting and collector rifles like this one around surplus military components.

For a New Mexico hunter the .30-06 is a centerfire cartridge well above the .22-caliber minimum, so with expanding bullets it is legal for deer, elk and pronghorn. Most of those licenses come through the annual big-game draw, and rifle hunts mostly run from October through December, which leaves time to sight in a rifle like this before the dates for your hunt code arrive. Full metal jacket and tracer loads stay off the big-game list.
