An Imperial German Model 1871/84 bolt-action rifle made at Spandau Arsenal in 1888, serial 5546, chambered in 11mm Mauser with a 32-inch round barrel. All serial numbers match, right down to the sling swivel. The barrel keeps most of its factory blue with some thinning, the receiver is in the bright with sharp markings, and the stock is very good with crisp inspection stamps on the right side and few handling marks. The bore is bright with strong rifling, and the action is smooth and functions correctly.
1888 was the final year of 1871/84 production, and the model was Germany's first standard-issue repeating military rifle, so this is a collector's piece first. Its appeal for a New Mexico buyer is in the preserved finish, the matching numbers and the inspection stamps rather than in the fall draws. The 32-inch barrel and full military stock make it a long rifle for the safe or a display wall, and the working action means it can still be handled and cycled.
