An English flintlock trade musket made around 1875, in 70 caliber with a 50-inch barrel. The lock is marked LONDON. The metal has a light gray patina and the wood is reasonably sharp. It shows the usual trade-gun pattern: an oversized trigger guard, thin lightweight furniture, ribbed ramrod pipes and a barrel made for shot.
Flintlock ignition on a gun of the 1870s was deliberate: these muskets were built for trade with native peoples, and the makers kept the old system rather than supplying a more effective arm. That history, the London lock marking and the long barrel are what make it a collector's piece for a New Mexico buyer interested in the trade-gun era. It is sold as an antique in the condition described, with the patina and wood wear stated plainly, and not as a shooter. The 50-inch barrel makes for a long gun, so plan display space accordingly.
